Character Sketch

Name: Lynda Daymor

Personality Type: diplomat; optimist, activist, politician

Name Meaning: "Lynda" is a variant of "Linda", which in Spanish means "pretty".  However it is also derived from a German word "lind", which means soft or tender and is related to the linden tree. It is from this tree that Lynda actually gets her name (see family history).

Physical Description: Lynda has dark brown hair curled into neat ringlets. She is short, slim, and pale, and has light green eyes.  She is pleasant to look at though not particularly stunning.  She is satisfied with her looks and other than appearing neat and proper doesn't give them much thought.

Transportation: Lynda mostly travels by foot or by horse; however, on special occasion a carriage is available to her.  She prefers to travel by horse, however, and her favorite horse is a gray mare with a white mane named Gretel who is a little stubborn and a little older.

Clothing: Distinguished by the red riding cloak given to her by her grandmother, Lynda also wears brown leather boots, stockings, a warm, heavy skirt, white undershirt, a thick, dark red over shirt and brown leather gloves – when traveling and around town.  Lynda goes to great length to keep her clothing clean. Her mother made some of her clothes; some was bought at the tailor in town, but Lynda doesn't have many options. She spends a lot of time getting ready to make sure she looks presentable and ladylike.

Family history: Lynda's grandmother is the "Keeper" of Linden (the Keeper of each town is responsible for maintaining the magical boundaries or fences of the town for protection and also are like advisors and run the magic shop of each town, where people can buy potions, etc). However, because Keepers are not allowed to have children, Lynda's mother and father fled Linden and settled in a neighboring town, Hallton. Lynda is named after the town her family originated in. Also Lynda has inherited her grandmother's magic, though it takes her a long time to learn and master the magic as it is weaker in her than in her grandmother.

Best friend: Kyle Westfield. Rivalry relationship, make fun of each other all the time, but at the end of the day they really care about each other and would do anything for the other.

Hometown: She grew up in Hallton, a small town in a valley in the middle of the mountain range like the German Alps.  She is an only child and her family lives in a small house in the middle of the city – away from the town center but not on the outskirts either.  As a child, Lynda wanted to be a teacher, but as she grows up she is forced into a position where she plays as a diplomat/ambassador to the surrounding cities and kingdoms, but she puts her full effort and passion into it. Her favorite hobby as a child was to go to the outskirts of city and try to cross a long bridge over a deep, narrow ravine (like the Marienbrucke by castle Neuschwannstein in Bavaria), and thus is leader of the "Bridge Dare" club in which the children of the town dare each other to try to cross the bridge and see who can get furthest across.

Politics: Lynda is trying to reunite her kingdom by abolishing the Keepers, who she thinks are there more to prevent the townspeople from leaving than to protect them. She is one of the main leaders of this movement.

Talents: Can play the violin and can whistle (but sings horribly)

Pets: Though Lynda loves animals, she does not have the time to take care of a pet.  The closest thing she would have to a pet would be Gretel, her favorite horse.

General philosophy: Sometimes the wolf isn't the bad guy.  Need to look beyond appearances.  Need to work together to pursue not only knowledge but wisdom.

Favorite music: Though this does not exist in her world, if it did Lynda would love Jean Sibelius Symphony No 2 and other classical music, maybe Peer Gynt and Mozart and on a crazy day, Beethoven. (These would not exist because her kingdom has no way of establishing large orchestras). She loves music in general, but her favorite sound is the sound of the cello.

Eating: Lynda grew up on German food – sausage, potatoes, bread. However she does not drink alcohol; she prefers milk. She is a very picky eater which is a problem for her traveling.  However, if its her traditional German food, she can eat a lot, though she never overindulges and stays healthy.

When Upset: When Lynda is stressed, upset, or scared, she becomes naggy, bossy, and short-tempered. She has little patience. Lynda puts on a face of bravery and tries hard to overcome her fears (with the Bridge Dare group).  She believes in challenging her fears and facing them.  However, when truly scared and put in really dangerous situations, she relies heavily on Kyle to protect her and, especially before she learns her magic, her mind blanks and she panics. However she eventually learns to overcome her fears and use her magic to protect her, although a part of her will always want to run or hide.

Bad habits: unconsciously taps her foot when getting impatient.

Flaws: very picky eater, sometimes she is too forward and blunt, can be bossy
